Group 31 - Do you really notice everything?

Day 1 - Today my group of friends and I picked our topic for psychology fair. Change blindness is our topic, and it is a perceptual phenomenon that happens when a shift in a visual stimulus is unnoticed.

Day 2 - Today my group worked on a student handout that was assigned to us by our teacher. It was difficult to complete it but we got through it. Our assignment consisted of finding reliable sources that explained our psych fair topic. Here is a link to explain what our topic is.

Day 3. Yo its your boy, today my group and i are still working on our student handout and we should have it completed by the end of the period.  We ran into conflict when one of my group members had the same reference as me. We quickly resolved this issue when we realized what had occurred. Regardless i find change blindness to be very interesting and intriguing. It seems to me that there are  not a whole lot of studies referring to change blindness. I will continue my search in the efforts of completing the assignment.

Friday March 11th, Day 4. Today my group and i started working on our new assignment which is due on Monday night. We are supposed to form a hypothesis and identify some variables. Suffering from senioritis is detrimental to the whole process but we are powering through it. Here's to a successful day of progress in psychology.

Day 5, Monday March 14th. My group and i are working on handouts and thinking of what our experiment is going to be like. Our main idea is to have a flash of images in front of someone's face, see if they notice the change. We are going to set up a pc and have someone tell us if they notice the change in a set of images we show them.

Day 6. We have decided that we are going to stick with the slideshow idea. We will need 3 laptops and 3 people to conduct the experiment. Slight changes will occur in every image in the slideshow, mostly the same but slight change. The goal is to see if they notice the change and if they don't, we will tell them what changed. My group and i are working on finishing up our handouts. Psych fair is next week so we have to get all our work done.

Day 7. We are working on our rough draft essay. I'm thinking about the materials we'll need to conduct our experiment today. We need 3 laptops and a power point to display on each computer. Electricity will be required to conduct our experiment properly.

Day 8. We will have completed all of our student handouts by the end of the period. We still have to complete our poster and gather materials for our experiment. All in all everything is coming together.

Day 9. All that's left for us to do is making a poster. The poster's gonna be colorful and eye catching. We gotta get markers glue and scissors to craft it.

Day 10. Today our group is working on our poster, Jake did a great job designing the backdrop for our poster. We're just coloring it in and adding text to the poster. Psych fair is closing in and i know we'll be ready for it.

Day 10. Hello everyone, thank you so much for taking the time to check out my groups blog. Thank you for the feedback and encouragement. We really appreciate it and hope to see you at the fair. Today we're finishing up our poster. The poster looks great, my friend Jake, made a great purple and blue panel design over a black poster. Some of you that viewed the blog asked for the purpose of the experiment, the purpose is to show people that they really do not notice everything that goes on around them.

Day 11. The day of the fair went very well. The amount of people was hectic but we got a good amount of people to participate in our experiment. We proved our hypothesis to be true. Most people that tried our experiment did not notice a change quickly. They really had to try to find the change. We can assume that over 75 percent of students at Sandburg are effected by change blindness.

  1. Would love a little more insight into what your experiment will look like.

  2. That's cool! In psych we learned about perception and how we assume things when they are actually not. And also the grouping tendencies like similarity, proximity, closure, and continuity which the brain assume or get things done for you quickly! The experiment sounds interesting, good luck.

    1. Thank you for taking the time to comment on our blog! We are definitely bringing every aspect of change blindness into perspective for our experiment.

  4. It'd be easier to find your group if you were a little more detailed with how your poster and everything is going to look like. Besides that, I look forward to seeing how your experiment turns out!

    1. Thank you for your input. I shall add a more detailed description of the poster in today's to help you find us at psych fair!.

  5. I'm looking forward to this experiment, but at the same time would also like some more information as to the purpose of it.

    1. I agree. I watched a video that challenged this topic in AP Psych but i would love to be apart of the experiment myself!

  6. this idea sounds really interesting, I think a lot of people who try this test will be surprised by their results

  7. I am looking forward to see if this has an impact long term on anyone's perception.

  8. this would be interesting for the people who think they can notice everything that happens around them and would definitely change the outlook on eyewitness testimony

  9. I think that change blindness is very interesting because it seems crazy that something can right in front of our eyes, but we don't notice.

  10. just wanting a little bit more detail on this experiment so i could come check it out at the fair and recognize it but the topic itself is very intriguing.

  11. This is a cool idea. We watched a lot of videos in class on how it is difficult to notice small changes in pictures or videos.

  12. I believe that our eyes can't see every little dit in front of us. Humans have limited sight.

  13. This sounds like the video having you count the number of times the basketball is passed between the people wearing white jerseys, and then has a lady with an umbrella walk through. I'm curious to see how you judge blindness.

  14. I am interested to see how this will go. During class we have learned a lot about perception, so hopefully I can use my knowledge during the experiment as well.

  15. This is so true. I believe that we are unaware of our surroundings, we assume we see everything, but we don't. This seems like it would be an awesome experiment. Good luck!

  16. This experiment will definitely make people stop and notice more in their everyday lives. I am very interested to see how aware I am of my surroundings. I will make sure to stop by!

  17. I wish you would have added a little more detail in the description of the experiment. It sounds interesting and I am sure people are going to be surprised by the outcome after trying it.

  18. detecting changes is hard enough as it is but small ones in a picture or video is very hard for me. will be interesting to see how your experiment goes.

  19. Seems interesting but would like more details

  20. It is definitely impossible for people to notice absolutely everything, I mean there is just so much going on all the time that how could we?

  21. It is nice that instead of having to watch a video about the subject in class we can be the actual test subjects

  22. I watched a video in class where the details of a scene changed up to 20 times and it was very hard to notice any differences. We think we see it all but we don't - interesting topic.

  23. so excited for this experiment, can't wait to learn more details!

  24. In class we have studied perception and it impossible to completely notice everything. This experiment is going to be interesting to test out
