Group 10 - The Anti-Social Network

considering this is my first time i was able to do the blog i will talk about what project i plan on experimenting with. I am going to have a brief survey to help gather data to see if social media actually hurts us emotionally. It is a interesting topic considering so much of our modern lives revolves around our phones and social media and the importance it has in our lives. Social media and technology have been taking a beating when it comes to how much they have disconnected us from one another and how we are losing conversational skills due to constant use of our phones and texting. So i want to have actual data and determine if social media affects our emotional and psychological state.

  1. Although some people think we may be losing social skills, doesn't social media actually increase our connections as a society?

    3. We are more connected as a society, and globally. However, the more we communicate through impersonal mediums like texts, the less emotionally connected we are.

  2. Along with having data, I believe you should also gather a few subjects. You should have them in a space and see how long they interact before they go on their phones or whatever they have. The purpose of this trial is to test the quality of human interaction along with psychological habits such as: looking at them straight in the eye or looking down

  4. Interesting how social media allows for mass communication while inadvertently diminishing our person to person communication skills...

  5. I definitely agree on the importance of this subject, social media impacts such a large number of people.

  6. it could be interesting to ask people if they have friends that they are comfortable texting but not talking to in person

  7. I think you should gather subjects and gather more data from there

  9. Social media impacts many people in our society, I think it would be interesting to see who would rather text a person than talk to someone in person.

  10. Pretty cool experiment considering social media is very influential in our society. There is a lot of negativity as well as postivity on the internet and everybody using social media should know the emotional impacts it has on their health.

  11. I really like this idea because no matter how public social media truly is, no one knows what goes on outside of it and how it affects people. I also agree that technology has ruined communication with people, considering how some people text each other when they are five feet away from each other.

  12. I think there are pros and cons of having social media. Social media brings awareness of what is occurring around the globe. However, social media wastes a lot of our time as we don't read, go to the park, or talk with others.

  13. I have my phone in my hand like almost all the time!! Sometimes I see stuff on social media that makes me laugh or something inspirational or even educational and I learn about the world and society and I think that's positive! But then sometimes I see some bad things I didn't want to see. Sometimes I get bored with social media. Sometimes instead of going to bed I look at social media and so I'm missing out on sleep and I get mad at myself because I would rather be sleeping I guess?? I rarely post anything on social media because I feel that if you share your opinions that it will cause fights and arguments and disagreements and I ain't about that!! And I think it's sad when people post stuff on social media to feel a sense of acceptance from others! And when people have to act 'fake' to fit in. And when other people bully other people on social media!! Sometimes reading drama is fun but it could also be humiliating if you're actually involved and a lot of times it's over some childish nonsense!! Sometimes people need to calm down and just laugh at memes or maybe pick up a new hobby like cooking maybe whatever that sounds so fun

  15. i think it would be necessary to investigate whether it matters if social interaction occurs over technology or face-to-face and establish a base there

  16. looks interesting i wonder how much it does disconnect us

  17. I agree that technology has disconnected us from each other, very relevant topic

  18. Social media can really take a toll on us , so I am looking forward to the results

  19. I believe that social media has a very positive and very negative impact on our lives, yet we don't discuss the negative side as much. It's an interesting topic.

  20. I think it would be interesting to document which social media sites cause the most negative feelings because it could show exactly what style of post has the worst effect on social media users.

  21. I think social media is an interesting topic because it can both connect us, and separate us from society. Interested to see your data

  22. I think this is a very interesting experiment because there are a lot of issues with cyberbullying and things like that which could potentially hurt the psychological state of the users

  23. Considering where we were 10 years ago compared to now, its a good topic to look upon especially when trying to see how social media impacts us directly

  24. I think this would be an interesting experiment but would be dependent on many variables. I don't feel like this experiment could be done in a short period of time and would have to be tracked. Are you planning on asking someone how they feel shortly after using social media or what was the plan of approach?

  25. Good experiment, interested to see if it actually does effect us.

  26. I think social media is a good thing in a way I think it connects us more but we just lose some of the face-to-face interactions which can be a bad thing.

  27. Social media has definitely taken over a huge part of people's lives now a days, and has had both positive and negative effects. People are becoming both closer and farther away from one another.

    1. I totally agree with this! Social Media allows us to connect to friends and family far away, but also may limit the relationships we have here at home.

  28. What the real thing is people look for when either on social media or being with friends is the interaction. People need something to communicate with in order to feel satisfied. People need interaction, whether it would be through social media, their electronic devices, or people. Nice experiment! I hope you keep this in mind.

  30. I agree that social media has disconnected society and has decreased our social skills. I think it is less personal then talking to a person in person, but social media has also unified us. It has given people an outlet to talk to each other at anytime of the day and be able to talk to each other over either pictures, texts, voice, or even live video streaming. I will be interested to see your concluding result.

  31. I agree with you that society is hiding behind their phones and computer screens. I'm very interested to see how you are going to measure the skills you claim social media will affect.
