Day 2- March 9th, 2016- Today we are searching for new experiments that can help us relate to our topic. Different types of food as well as memory experiments are good base to see what we can complete during the experiment. We also thought of our second part to the experiment we plan to test memory first without gum and then with gum, but are still debating to do the opposite.
Day 3- March 10th, 2016- Today we had more research that helped us figure out what our project needs to be and what in the gum makes our brain memorize more then without the gum.
Day 4- March 11th, 2016- Today just consisted up getting our student handouts done, and creating our hypothesis about how will the people react to our experiment.
Day 5- March 14th, 2016- We have decided to change up our experiment, instead of having one person at a time try to memorize, we have decided to do the test in groups of 2, one person chewing gum and the other not. You can find where we decided to change the experiment here- http://www.wired.com/2011/11/the-cognitive-benefits-of-chewing-gum/
Day 6- March 15th, 2016- We have completed student handouts 16 and 17 and are focusing on the supplies we may need for the experiment.
Day 7- March 16th, 2016- I ( Dylan ) will be picking up the poster today and we will be starting our colors and vibrant images on the poster to help have people come to our experiment, we also have decided to give suckers to each of our participants.
Day 8- March 17th, 2016- Working Hard
Day 9- March 18th, 2016- Starting to get to work on our poster- we want to make it colorful to attract more people!
Day 10- March 21st, 2016- W have finished our poster with the title mint gum memory, we have a lot of good colors and research to attract the people to visit our booth.
Day 11, March 22nd, 2016- Getting ready for parent night tomorrow, just finishin up a few touches such as finding good headphones and reading the words for voice recording.
Day 12, March 23rd, 2016- Parent night went great! just a few kinks we had to work out such as how much gum we needed and how long it would take, but on average the results are what we expected!
Day 13 ( PSYCHOLOGY FAIR) It went great! the kids were very interested in our experiment and gave us the results we needed, we also found out a good trick so the 2nd person ( with gum) does not hear the words the first person gave we would put headphones on the first person and play music so they could not memorize the words with first person was saying- all and it all it was a good day and we got good results.
Day 14- After the fair- I think the only thing that could be improved is the amount of people at the fair at once, it was hard and at some points to move, and get people to try, with it being so hard to move.
Could smell have a similar result?
ReplyDeleteThis seems very cool and it will be interesting to see this theory tested
ReplyDeleteWe are always told to study and take standardized tests with mint gum so the results should be interesting.
ReplyDeleteI am interested in this theory. I have often wondered if this theory works and am excited to find out the results.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a cool idea, maybe I'll stop by at the fair! Good luck!
ReplyDeletethe picture really adds to the comprehension of your experiment!
ReplyDeleteI've always heard of this theory but never knew if it was true or not! I always have mint gum in my bag so seeing how this turns out will be interesting.
ReplyDeleteI have always heard that chewing gum can help memorization so I look forward to finding out if that is true or not
ReplyDeleteGood idea to use two people for the experiment and nice job working hard.
ReplyDeleteDoes the type of gum you are chewing at the time you study something or memorize have an impact on the effectiveness of gum on memory?
ReplyDeleteI always wondered why people said to chew gum while taking tests. I hope this answers my question, can't wait to see it!
ReplyDeleteI have heard before that mint gum can increase memory so I would be very interested to see the results of the experiment regarding whether or not this is actually true.
ReplyDeleteThis is interesting because a lot of teachers tell students to chew specifically mint gum before exams to help with memory. I wonder if other tastes are helpful too, and if not then why is only mint helpful?
ReplyDeleteThis experiment really interests me as I have always wanted to know if this theory is true or not. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteCool experiment. I wonder if this is actually true. I'll be chewing gum more often though if it is.
ReplyDeleteI heard of this theory before, I have no idea if it is true but i would like to know. I will be sure to stop at this one.
ReplyDeleteAwesome. I can't wait to see this experiment and the evidence you provide.
ReplyDeleteI'm very interested to find out the results of this experiment because I have always heard of this theory and believed it.
ReplyDeleteInteresting experiment. Maybe I'll start chewing gum during exams if it's actually true.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious to see if the amount of time chewing gum will have an effect on your memory.
ReplyDeleteI've heard of this as well and it does seem something id like to look into considering i always have gum
ReplyDeleteI think this is an interesting experiment. teachers always tell us to chew gum or eat mints during tests to maintain concentration so it should be exciting to find out your results.
ReplyDeleteThis seems very interesting to me because I chew mint gum regularly during school. I'm looking forward to see if it actually affects memory
ReplyDeleteI have heard this before! I'm interested to see whether or not it improves memory.
ReplyDeleteI have heard about this theory before! Although it didn't just suggest gum, it could range from hard candy mints as well. I'm excited to try this experiment at the fair!
ReplyDeleteHeard about the idea of mint gum helping with memory. Seems very interesting
ReplyDeleteI've heard this before, and I'm interested to see if it actually works!
ReplyDeleteI love mint gum and I am interested to see if the theory is true or not!
ReplyDeleteThis theory is really intriguing and most students probably have thought about whether or not it's true, but does the theory only support mint gum or can it be any flavor?
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of that that gum helps you memorize things easier... I'm curious to see if it actually works! If it does, then maybe I should incorporate it into my study habits...
ReplyDeleteInteresting experiment. I know several people who always say chewing gum helps your memory. I wonder if your results will show that. Good luck with the experiment and I hope you get the results you want.
ReplyDeleteI chew gum all the time while I'm doing things so this will be cool to see
ReplyDeleteNice experiment. I have heard about this and would like to see how well it actually works. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteInteresting experiment, I'm still very skeptical of the effects of mint on a person's memory. Good luck proving it!!
ReplyDeleteI did my psych fair experiment on this last year and it went really well so I'm interested to see how yours goes
ReplyDeleteThis was awesome! It was so cool to see how people vary memorizing words between chewers and non-chewers. It's weird how chewing gum can improve your short-term memory. I wonder why? I wonder if certain gums affect memorizing stuff differently?
