Group-10 Ethan smith

i am looking forward to seeing how my experiment turns out. I have done some research to see the mental state most social network using people. this helps me understand their mental process of my surveyors and helps me predict my outcome. the studies that i found showed hints of mental dependence and deterioration of their mental health. They showed that people who are frequent users of social media are addicted to going on their accounts. It also showed some eye opening facts about social networking users. I am excited to find out what my survey will show me.

Group 10 - The Anti-Social Network

considering this is my first time i was able to do the blog i will talk about what project i plan on experimenting with. I am going to have a brief survey to help gather data to see if social media actually hurts us emotionally. It is a interesting topic considering so much of our modern lives revolves around our phones and social media and the importance it has in our lives. Social media and technology have been taking a beating when it comes to how much they have disconnected us from one another and how we are losing conversational skills due to constant use of our phones and texting. So i want to have actual data and determine if social media affects our emotional and psychological state.

Group 24 - So you think you can smell?

Tuesday March 8th 2016- Decided on the project to be related to people not challenging the obvious. Also we completed Division of labor sheet. For our project, we will get candles, and switch the labels and have people smell. Then we will ask the people what they think it smells like.

Wed. March 9th- Thought more about how to execute performing the experiment or even possibly changing it. Also we began Student handout 12.

Thursday March 10th- We have completed the student handout 12, will begin background research. We are still discussing how to execute the lab. We decided to get multiple candles, each in pairs of 2. then we will cover the entire thing in tin foil so they cant see what it looks like. Next we will put labels on the tin foil. 2 exact same candles will be placed on the table. One with the correct label, and one candle with its label switched. We will make them smell the first one and tell us what they think it smells like. Then we will make them smell something in between. Finally they will smell the candle that´s the same as the first and we will ask them what they think it smells like.

Friday-March 11th- We have almost completed SH 13, but we have to type 2 paragraphs to turn it in.

Monday March 14th- We have complete SH 13, 14, and 15. We are ready to turn it in. Matt will get the poster board for Thursday. Over the weekend we will all get 2 candles that are the same. To finally start gathering the items for our experiment.

Tuesday March 12th- We have completed SH 16, 17, and are beginning 18. We are planning what the poster board should be called, and look like.

Wed. March 13th- We have finished all the handouts besides 18. Matt went to Micheal's and got the poster board for tomorrow. We explained the experiment to Mr. V so our idea got approved.

Thursday March 14th- We have completed SH 18, 19 , and 20. We resubmitted 18 because we fixed the citation and want 100%. We have our poster board. So now we will begin working on the poster board and our google form.

Friday March 15th- We are deciding how to set up our poster board to make it appealing. We decided on handing out candy to make people come to our booth.

Monday March 21- We started on our poster, we are working on our title and ways to make our poster pop. So far it was a very productive day, but we may have to take the poster home to complete it because class may not be enough time for us.

Tuesday March 22- We need to continue working at home because our title took too much time to complete. We will finish tonight and set up tomorrow. Also we are very excited to see the results that we obtain Thursday.

Wednesday March 23- We set up. The parents came and tested out the experiments, which went very well. We are ready for tomorrow

Thursday March 24- The psychology fair was a success. We proved our hypothesis right. Here are some pictures from our day. About 32% of 300 people said that the candles were the same, the rest were fooled.

Group 29 - The Name Game

Day 1- Today we are trying to brainstorm ideas to use for our first experiment for psych fair. We want to use the idea of stereotypes with the use of names.
Day 2- The experiment we are going to be doing is one where we take 3 pictures of the same baby at the age of 10-18 months old and name one a boy's name, one a girl's name, and one simply baby. We are going to make a list of traits that would commonly go along with a boy baby's personality, a girl baby's personality, and just all baby's personalities in general and see how the name/gender of the baby affects a persons idea about that baby.
Day 3-  probably going to use this picture for the baby???
Day 4- We have all of our materials for the psych fair ready to go!
Day 5- Continuing working on our posters!
Day 6- Psych fair was a great experience and we are glad we proved our hypothesis!

Group 2 - Bet you can't keep your Balance! Can You?

We decided on The Perception Box! The idea of Perception was
brought to our attention and we knew this experiment would fit perfectly
to do for the Psychology Fair 2016. We had 'The Levitating Board' as our
2nd choice, as a backup, but we got our 1st choice! Today our task was to
assign each of our group members our Group Divisions of Labor. We submitted
Student Handout 11: Group Division of Labor. A pretty easy day, but the work grind starts tomorrow!

Here is a Crash Course video to preview the background knowledge about Perception and our senses!

Wednesday, March 9, 2016
Today is our first work day! Lilly and I (Hira) worked on 'Student Handout 12: Choosing a Topic' and submitted it in. A little bit about that assignment that got us more intrigued about our topic was what the participant's reaction is suppose to be, as well as understanding and interpreting their abilities through the use of our 5 senses. Then, we started working on 'Student Handout 13: Summarizing Project Background Research'. Lilly, Hannah, and Alaina were searching for some psychological studies that relate to Perception. Since, we were short on time due to late start, we will continue tomorrow and try to finish it up before the close due date.

Today is another work day! All the members in our group are continuing to work on Student Handout 13. We were pretty successful in finding a couple articles that fit for Perception!

We were so involved in our assignment today and learned so much more knowledge about our topic and experiment!

Friday, March 11, 2016

Today we were glued to our screens and researching non-stop! We worked hard on completing 'Student Handout 14: Developing Your Psychology Fair Hypothesis'. Through the research, we found relationships with our experiment include perception, balance, and feeling of falling. Unfolding discoveries about our topic, we thought of some cause-effect questions. Like, 'does the way your brain takes in visual things affect your balance' or 'Can you keep your balance'?

Here's a quick video to learn more about factors that influence perception!

Today we broke down the components of our experiment and completed ‘Student Handout 15: Identifying Variables’. For our experiment, the independent variable is watching the object move while in the box, the dependent variable is the feeling of falling, and the constant variable is the box moving!

Today my group and I worked on 'Student Handout 16: Establishing Your Research Activity and Student Handout 17: Project Data Checklist'. For our project, our hypothesis was when the box moves, the person will fall. We identified the variables put into our procedure. Participants will be tested individually where others are able to watch the demonstration. We will measure the the procedure by tallying each person that falls. The procedure will take about 30 seconds-1 minute. We are able to complete the trial on about 240-300 people through the course of the psych fair. To test the participant, first we will explain what our demonstration is showing to the participant before they test it out, then the participant will stand in the box. Next, one experimenter will stand outside of the hole cut out of the box and hold a camera or an object for the participant to stare at while the other experimenter moves the box. Hopefully, the participant will then lose their balance and fall over. Our experiment will be successful if we can pull it off, as well as getting through hundreds of people through the course of the Psychology Fair!

Today we thought out and organized the process of our experiment for the day of the Psychology Fair! We planned all the materials needed for the experiment. Like, a step-up stool, a tray, cups, a chand the perception box, of course! Also, we completed ´Student Handout 19: Student Work Request and Student Handout 20: Creating Your Materials List´. While searching the web to perfect any other factors for our experiment, we came across an episode of brain games. Check it out!

Today was a pretty laid back work day for my group and I. We completed ‘Student Handout 18: Rough Draft’. Also, we plotted some great ideas for our poster! We thought of amusing captions, pictures, colors, and banners to add as an amusing factor in our booth. Our thoughts will all come to reality Monday when we put it all together and create an amazing poster for the Psychology Fair of 2016!

Wow, today was a very chill day after working so hard for the past 2 weeks! We completed all of our required Student Handouts. So, today we´re further plotting ideas for our poster. We went on to Canvas to get inspiration from previous posters! We´ll officially start our posters Monday!

Monday, March 21, 2016
Today we layed out our ideas and plotted them onto the poster. Also, we thought of some eye catching pictures we can print out to add to it. We planned out what interesting facts and background knowledge we’re going to use, as well as where we want to place the pictures. So, tomorrow we put it all into color to make it an attracting booth for the participants of the Psychology Fair of 2016!

Tuesday, March 22, 2016
We’re so close to the big day! Today, we finished up our big eye-catcher for the booth. We added the title with big, bold, and colorful letters! Also, some neat pictures to better understand our experiment. Our hard working days are coming to an end and sooner or later we’ll be standing at our booth.

Wednesday, March 23, 2016

Today we did touch-ups to perfect any last strands for our Psychology Fair booth! We added more color and detail to the poster to make it pop sitting at our booth. As well as adding a candy bowl for our participants. So, you guys have to try out our experiment for a sweet treat! Also, tonight is Parent Night for the Psychology Fair of 2016. So, we planned out the setup of our booth, like how many chairs we need, necessary chrome books, etc. Can’t wait for the big day tomorrow!

Wow, today was an extremely long day for all of us, but it was an amazing experience for my group and I! We had a lot of fun testing the experiment on our participants and loved seeing their reactions! We were really happy that we tested 517 people, which is more than our estimated amount of getting through 240-300 people. An interesting statistic for the outcome of our experiment was 52 out of 517 participants kept their balance! All in all, it was a great day spent! Here are some pictures from our day!

Wow, our Psychology Fair journey ends here! We're finally all done. Today we just filled out the feedback survey and uploaded all pictures and videos from the fair. Also, we got a head start on grouping the statistics of our experiment that'll be a great help for the final assignment, which is the essay. Hope you all enjoyed the Psychology Fair of 2016 as much as my group and I did!
